The review comes after a bill was passed in 2024, requiring an audit of the department.<\/p>\n
The auditor\u2019s review found that the Department of Education allowed $250 million in SEEK funds to lapse instead of reallocating that money to cover funding shortfalls.<\/p>\n
Auditor Ball also highlighted the department\u2019s diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts, calling it a \u201cwaste of money,\u201d saying there has been no noticeable difference in student outcomes.<\/p>\n
The audit also found the Kentucky Department of Education and the Kentucky High School Athletic Association are not mitigating the risk of sexual harassment and abuse of student-athletes.<\/p>\n
Ball says a lot of what is in the 500-page report will make its way to proposed legislation to be considered in next year\u2019s session.<\/p>\n
Ball said \u201cWe are not just looking for wastefulness. We are not looking at just fraud. We are here looking at much more.\u201d<\/p>\n
Auditor Ball says following this audit, the Kentucky Department of Education created resources for sexual assault prevention and awareness.<\/p>\n
The report says the Kentucky Department of Education and the Kentucky Board of Education lack measurable benchmarks for gauging student success.<\/p>\n
Auditor Ball added the state Board of Education is failing to oversee the Department of Education.
