According to park officials, the initial flooding began in February 2025, with additional rainfall in April that caused water levels to rise even further. The extended high water left much of the park submerged for weeks, causing significant structural damage.<\/p>\n
Carlet Hagan, Park Manager at Nolin Lake State Park said all of the buildings, all of the trails, the beach, all of the campground sites, the entire electrical and wastewater system have all been compromised. <\/p>\n
As of now, there is no official timeline for when the park will reopen. Before any repairs can begin, full assessments must be completed by FEMA and insurance partners.<\/p>\n
The damage goes beyond surface-level cleanup. Mold, downed trees, and trail landslides have all been reported, with many facilities declared unsafe to enter. Hagan said safety remains the top priority and that the park will remain closed until every issue is addressed.<\/p>\n
Nolin Lake State Park typically draws more than 275,000 visitors annually, according to the Kentucky State Parks 2023 Annual Report. With FEMA handling more than 2,000 disaster cases this year nationwide, officials say the timeline for reopening could stretch into the distant future.<\/p>\n
