From July 20\u201326, troopers will participate in the 6-State Trooper Project, a coordinated effort among state police agencies in Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The focus of this high-visibility enforcement campaign is to promote compliance with Move Over laws and reduce roadside crashes involving law enforcement officers, emergency responders and service workers.<\/p>\n
In 2003, Kentucky passed its Move Over law, requiring motorists to move to the adjacent lane when approaching an emergency vehicle or public safety vehicle with flashing lights (KRS 189.930). If changing lanes is impossible or unsafe, motorists must slow down and use caution. Failure to do so can result in fines, jail time or both (KRS 189.993 (8)). <\/p>\n
Post 4 Commander, Captain Jeremy Smith says the goal is not only to enforce the law, but to protect lives.<\/p>\n

\nSlow Down: Reduce your speed when approaching a vehicle stopped on the shoulder.
\nMove Over: If it’s safe, change lanes when you see a stopped emergency vehicle with flashing lights.
\nObey the Law: Failing to move over can result in fines and endanger lives.<\/p>\n
