Malik Q. Copeland, 18, of Paducah, was arrested on Sunday afternoon, August 10 on three counts of first-degree assault.<\/p>\n
Detectives say Copeland fired a handgun multiple times toward the area where the victims were standing.<\/p>\n
In addition, detectives say they found more evidence leading to another charge against 18-year-old Capus J. Adams of Murray, Kentucky.<\/p>\n
He now faces complicity to commit first-degree assault.<\/p>\n
Adams was arrested on Saturday morning and previously charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, tampering with physical evidence and third-degree fleeing or evading police after officers saw him shooting in the direction of several people.<\/p>\n
He is also accused of running from the officers, throwing out his gun during the chase. He was quickly arrested, and the weapon was recovered.<\/p>\n
Jystacye D. Pitts, 20, of Union City, Tennessee, was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment after he admitted to firing a gun in a crowded area.<\/p>\n
All three men are being held in the McCracken County Regional Jail.<\/p>\n
According to the city of Paducah’s website, it was celebrating its emancipation, with events scheduled August 6-10. The theme was \u201cLegacy and Lineage: A Celebration of HBCU Pride and Divine 9 Power.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police were called to the 900 block of Boyd Street at around 3:05 a.m. on Saturday, August 9 for a reported shooting.<\/p>\n
Through the investigation, police determined that multiple people were shooting during the incident.<\/p>\n
Detectives said three women were shot.<\/p>\n
A 20-year-old woman and a 23-year-old woman were treated at a local hospital before being transported to an out-of-state hospital.<\/p>\n
As of Sunday morning, August 10, the 20-year-old is on life support, and the 23-year-old is listed in critical but stable condition.<\/p>\n
The third woman, a 28-year-old, was treated at a local hospital and released.<\/p>\n
This investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information or video footage of the incident is asked to contact the Paducah Police Department at 270-444-8850.
