Reports initially indicated this was a single-vehicle crash but police now say two vehicles were involved. At approximately 2:30 a.m. Monday, officers responded to Gene Snyder Freeway at New Cut Road.<\/p>\n
Investigators say two cars were traveling north when the Dodge Durango hit the back of a Jeep Compass. The Durango crashed into a wooded area and the Jeep Compass rolled on its top before coming to stop. The female driver was ejected into the median. A baby seat was found under the Jeep with a child strapped inside. Both the adult female and the baby were transported to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
A 12-year-old child was also ejected from the jeep and pronounced dead on scene. Court documents confirm that the adult female is the mother of the two children.<\/p>\n
The driver of the Durango, Renaldo James Gill, has been charged with DUI, murder, assault and failure to wear a seatbelt.<\/p>\n
More charges could be coming.<\/p>\n
The mother of the two children was also cited for not properly securing the two in the vehicle and wanton endangerment.<\/p>\n
The road was closed for several hours.
