Authorities say 31 year-old Juma Omari, of Bowling Green, was taken into custody following a delayed report of the assault at a North Lee Drive apartment. The victim suffered a laceration along his hairline, and a broken wooden chair was found at the scene.<\/p>\n
According to witnesses, Omari became involved in a confrontation, smashed the chair on the ground, and struck the victim twice on the legs and once on the head using a sharpened point on the broken chair leg. Witnesses said Omari fled on foot after the attack.<\/p>\n
Officers later spotted Omari walking along North Lee Drive. Both he and the victim were treated at the Medical Center.<\/p>\n
The victim told police he had been trying to break up a separate fight when he was struck. Omari said he had been drinking, could not recall details of the assault, and claimed he ran from the scene before seeking help from authorities.<\/p>\n
Police cited witness statements and the strong odor of alcohol on Omari, noting he was \u201cmanifestly under the influence to the point that he was a danger to himself and others.\u201d<\/p>\n
Omari remains in the Warren County Regional Jail under a $10,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 26.
