The Frankfort Police Department started receiving calls early Wednesday morning regarding propaganda for the Ku Klux Klan scattered throughout the city, focused mainly on downtown streets.<\/p>\n
Frankfort Assistant Police Chief Scott Tracy said the flyers themselves are not considered a crime, but rather an expression of the First Amendment right. However, it is possible that the person responsible committed a different crime, such as littering or trespassing on private property.<\/p>\n
Investigators are asking anyone with video cameras to review Tuesday night\u2019s footage and contact the police department\u2019s non-emergency line at 502-875-8582 with any information in order to help identify if a crime was carried out.<\/p>\n
Residents in Versailles and Midway also discovered similar flyers on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
Midway Mayor Grayson Vandegrift said the KKK propaganda was located throughout the city, including in the elementary school parking lot. He believes the flyers united his constituents.<\/p>\n
The mayor said Midway police contacted the FBI regarding the distribution of the KKK flyers.
