On Tuesday, Governor Andy Beshear said the \u201cdrastic policy changes\u201d would gut more than $15 million in federal funding to Kentucky. <\/p>\n
He said it would put 700 households at risk of returning to homelessness and another 1,200 Kentuckians at risk of losing their housing.<\/p>\n
The lawsuit focuses on proposed changes to the Continuum of Care (CoC) program, which directs federal money to keep families with children, seniors, veterans and disabled persons housed, according to the governor.<\/p>\n
Beshear said the Trump administration\u2019s changes would put a 30 percent cap on funding state can receive for permanent supportive housing projects. It would also require states to reapply for money previously approved by Congress and awarded in 2024.<\/p>\n
Kentucky was expected to receive over $21 million, but with the new policy, the state would lose 70 percent of the more than $15 million already approved.<\/p>\n
Beshear said funding supports permanent supportive housing in all but two of Kentucky\u2019s 120 counties. The cap also impacts more than $20 million in federal funding toward rental assistance and supportive assistance for homeless Kentuckians.<\/p>\n
Beshear said none of the Trump administration’s changes received Congressional approval.
