Dr. Joshua Brandon, a primary care physician with Norton Healthcare, said flu activity is already significant.<\/p>\n
Brandon said flu symptoms can hit hard and fast. He said the typical flu symptoms are fatigue, fevers, chills, body aches, sometimes even difficulty breathing.<\/p>\n
According to the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness, 1,953 influenza cases have been recorded since the end of September. Data shows cases began rising in November, with 588 reported during the week of December 20 alone.<\/p>\n
Once someone tests positive, doctors may prescribe antiviral medications. <\/p>\n
Health experts said prevention remains the best defense. Brandon recommends getting a flu shot at a primary care office or local pharmacy.<\/p>\n
Health officials expect flu cases to continue rising into January. <\/p>\n
Brandon urges anyone experiencing symptoms like fatigue, chills or body aches to get tested right away. He also encourages people to be cautious while celebrating the New Year, noting that even those without symptoms can still spread the flu.<\/p>\n
Brandon said he is also seeing more COVID-19 cases than flu so far, which he said is not common.
