Tuesday, the department’s deputy secretary Jim O’Neill said all states will now have to submit justification, receipts of photos to verify that Child Care Development Fund dollars are being distributed to real childcare businesses. <\/p>\n
Child Care Development Fund dollars fund childcare tuition assistance programs for low-income families and helps childcare facilities meet payroll.<\/p>\n
Child Care Development Fund program federal funding is released to each state from the Administration for Children and Families’ Office of Child Care department. The federal Child Care Development Fund funding is then matched by state funding. Administration for Children and Families is an agency under Health and Human Services.<\/p>\n
The newly announced changes to the Child Care Development Fund verification requirements come after a YouTube influencer shared a video claiming that childcare providers in Minnesota were fraudulently using federal funds.<\/p>\n
Although those allegations have not been confirmed or officially investigated, leaders from Health and Human Services have taken action, halting all Child Care Development Fund payments to states.<\/p>\n
According to the Office of Child Care’s records, Kentucky received $224,426,398 in federal Child Care Development Fund funds for grant year 2025. Indiana received $277,660,106 in federal Child Care Development Fund funds.<\/p>\n
Local daycare provider Angela Huffman said without that funding, childcare facilities across the state could be forced to close their doors.
