Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) responded to a request at around 1:17 p.m. by Post 4 in Elizabethtown to investigate an officer-involved shooting on Wednesday, January 7.<\/p>\n
Police say that an employee from the Nelson County Humane Society called 911 after 80-year-old Norman Perkins of New Haven became disorderly inside the building and threatened them with a gun.<\/p>\n
Perkins then left the scene and drove north on US 31E toward Bardstown.<\/p>\n
Shortly after, officers found Perkins driving east on Bloomfield Road, leading officers to initiate a traffic stop.<\/p>\n
The suspect refused to yield until they eventually pulled over in the parking lot of the Speedy Mart located at 603 Bloomfield Road.<\/p>\n
As officers attempted to make contact with Perkins, he raised and pointed a gun at them, prompting the two deputies to fire their weapons at him.<\/p>\n
Despite attempts at first aid, Perkins was declared dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
No officers were injured.
