On Thursday, January 15, 27-year-old Nicholas Shanks and 25-year-old Shelby Kuntz were arrested and charged with assault-domestic violence, criminal abuse of a child 12 or under, and wanton endangerment for endangering the welfare of a minor after one of their children had to be resuscitated at the hospital.<\/p>\n
That hospital trip led medical staff and investigators to discover that child and another had been extensively hurt, including suffering from skull fractures, missing teeth, severe anemia from loss of blood, along with several other injuries.<\/p>\n
On Friday, a judge set their bond at $500,000 each.<\/p>\n
Also on Friday, 49 year-old Yvonne Shanks, who is the paternal grandmother of the victims, was arrested.<\/p>\n
According to an arrest citation, Shanks admitted to police she saw the child\u2019s injuries the morning of the 15th but did not call police or get the child treatment.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnder circumstances manifesting extreme indifference [to] the value of human life, she engaged in conduct which created a grave risk of death to the child, causing severe physical injuries,\u201d an arrest citation reads.<\/p>\n
Shanks is charged with complicity to assault-domestic violence, complicity to criminal abuse of a child 12 or under, and complicity to wanton endangerment for endangering the welfare of a minor.<\/p>\n
During Shanks\u2019 arraignment Saturday, a judge set her bond at $250,000.<\/p>\n
Shanks is due back in court on January 26. Nicholas Shanks and Shelby Kuntz are also set to have their next court appearence on January 26.
