\nLG&E and KU are encouraging customers to conserve energy as extreme winter weather continues.<\/p>\n

In a statement, LG&E says that it is expecting a higher energy demand as dangerously low temperatures persist in the coming days, and is asking customers to reduce energy usage.<\/p>\n

LG&E and KU Vice President of Customer Services Shannon Montgomery said customers are encouraged to take steps to conserve energy, which can directly impact bills, and help lessen potential strain on the regional electric grid.<\/p>\n

Customers are asked to consider the following suggestions in an attempt to cut down energy usage:<\/p>\n

Turn off all unnecessary lights and appliances.
\nAdjust your thermostat to lowest comfortable setting.
\nReduce reliance on other heating sources.
\nWear extra layers such as a sweatshirt or sweater.
\nAdd extra blankets to the bed.
\nClose the fireplace damper and doors when not in use unless you have a gas fireplace.
\nUse draft stoppers for windows and doors.
\nRun your dishwashers, dryers and washing machines only when full.
\nOpen curtains, drapes and\/or blinds in the daytime to let the sun\u2019s heat in your home and close them at night to retain the heat.
\nFurniture or drapes should not block air registers.
\nUse a microwave oven or a slow cooker or prepare cold meals. Microwaves use less than half the power of a conventional oven and cook food in about one-fourth the time.<\/p>\n
