Outside weather can greatly impact the temperature within your home, so you want to make sure that it is well-insulated.

This can be done by adding weather stripping around doors and window sills, or even covering windows with plastic from the inside to keep cold air out. There are easy-to-install options like foam and rubber seals that are safe for both homes and apartments. Drapes and blankets over windows can also help keep out cold air.

Those who will be riding out the storm in homes with multiple rooms can also close off unneeded rooms and place fabric under door cracks to help with internal insulation.

Adding these features will make sure that if power goes out, the heat that has already gathered inside, stays inside longer.

If the heat cuts out, you don’t necessarily need to jump to using a generator to keep warm. Instead, make sure to wear warm clothes and have extra blankets, sleeping bags and even coats around to maintain internal heat.

If you do need an alternate or extra source to heat your living space, make sure to do it safely and follow any manufacturer instructions. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that if you don’t have a fireplace, you have a portable space heater, but to make sure to follow these safety tips to make sure you don’t spark a fire or get carbon monoxide poisoning.

For those who plan to use space heaters, the CDC says to use devices that automatically turn off and that have non-glowing elements. They should also be kept at least three feet away from flammable materials, like drapes, furniture or bedding. Never use space heaters with damaged cords.
Source: WBKO

With the subzero temperatures following the winter storm this weekend, some are finding themselves without sufficient heat in their homes.

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[69

0":"post-55095","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-archive","8":"entry

https://i0.wp.com/www.wvih.com/wp1/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/downed-power-lines.jpg?fit=512%2C334&ssl=1
"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":
["GET
