An Immediate Suspension Order is an emergency measure that immediately halts a DEA registrant\u2019s ability to handle controlled substances when there is an imminent danger to public health or safety.<\/p>\n
The DEA said the action follows an investigation by diversion specialists who uncovered multiple compliance discrepancies at Richie Pharmacal\u2019s Glasgow distribution facility over the past several years.<\/p>\n
Jim Scott, special agent in charge of the DEA\u2019s Louisville Field Division, said Richie Pharmacal\u2019s actions in this case contributed to the diversion of medications often linked with abuse, threatened the safety of the community, and endangered American lives.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that distributors are required to maintain strict inventory controls, accurate recordkeeping, and vigilance over suspicious customer orders.<\/p>\n
While the Immediate Suspension Order is in effect, Richie Pharmacal is prohibited from handling any controlled substances. DEA registrants have 30 days to request a hearing to contest a suspension, but the order remains in effect until all administrative proceedings are complete.<\/p>\n
The case is being investigated by the DEA\u2019s Louisville Field Division, with support from the DEA\u2019s Knoxville District Office, the Glasgow Police Department, and the DEA\u2019s Office of the Chief Counsel.
