\nA Rowan County man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after pleading guilty to the brutal stabbing deaths of a mother and her teenage daughter inside their home.<\/p>\n
Joshua Cottrell admitted to killing 37-year-old Kayla Blake and her 13-year-old daughter, Kennedi McWhorter, in Morehead in September 2025.<\/p>\n
The victims were discovered after a welfare check at their home on Spring Street. Investigators later arrested Cottrell in Paducah, where authorities said he had blood on his clothing.<\/p>\n
Cottrell, who was Blake\u2019s boyfriend and lived with her, initially pleaded not guilty but changed his plea during a recent court hearing.<\/p>\n
Circuit Judge Elizabeth Davis sentenced Cottrell to two life terms without the possibility of parole, plus five years for tampering with physical evidence.
