The school district sent a letter to families on Monday announcing the schools would lose access to the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). The program allows school districts to offer lunch at no cost to every student, regardless of household income.<\/p>\n
The eight schools impacted are:
\nCecilia Valley Elementary School
\nLincoln Trail Elementary School
\nRineyville Elementary School
\nVine Grove Elementary School
\nEast Hardin Middle School
\nCentral Hardin High School
\nJohn Hardin High School
\nNorth Hardin High School<\/p>\n
John Wright, Hardin County Schools\u2019 community relations specialist, said schools must have a 60 percent free lunch rate for the program to be sustainable.<\/p>\n
However, Wright said parents were not filling out and returning forms, which meant the district did not know how many students actually rely on the program for their meals.<\/p>\n
Wright said families can still fill out an application for free\/reduced-price lunch before the new school year. That form should be available over the summer. Breakfast meals will remain free for every student, but students who don\u2019t qualify for free lunches and go to the eight schools on the list will have to pay $3.25 per day if they decide to eat at the school cafeteria.
