No action was taken as a result of the closed session. During the remainder of the meeting, the council reviewed monthly finances and approved claims and transfers related to the city’s finances.

Mayor David Pace updated the council on the reallotment of grant funds approved for the city through the Lincoln Trail Area Development District. The grant was originally allotted for the construction of a new elevated water tower along Mooreman Road. City leaders have been working through negotiations regarding the increase cost of materials to construct the new water tower and resulted in no feasible fiscal resolve. Pace said the city has requested to use the money to construct a new water well and purchase radio read meters for the city water system. The grant funds are intended to used by October.

The council noted the needs in Riverfront Park during their discussion. Mayor Pace said the orange construction fencing had been taken down around Flippin’s Run Park from last year’s flooding and erosion. He said the bank is still in danger but no agencies are willing to provide the city assistance to begin stabilizing the riverbank. The project is estimated around $800,000 to make repairs.

Mayor Pace reported to the council that bids are being sought for a water line replacement along Old Ekron Road. The work will also require repairs to be made to sidewalks along with water meter updates. The work is expected to be completed quickly after the the bid is awarded.

City leaders discussed the success of Food Truck Friday in the Riverfront Park this past week. They are not sure if the event will happen this week due to the Meade County Graduation Ceremony. The first Yard of the Month this year was awarded to Don and Donna Shacklette.

Police Chief Brian Hagg reported to the council that his department is currently implementing procedures for new body cameras and taser for officers. Training on the new equipment is scheduled later this month. Funding for the new equipment is partially in the current budget and will be included in the upcoming fiscal year budget that begins July 1. Chief Hagg said the department currently has a virtual training simulator through the Kentucky League of Cities to allow officers to work through various scenarios to further their training.

City leaders expect to have a special called meeting for the opening, review and awarding of bids for the Old Ekron Road water line replacement project and the first reading of the proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year. The date for the meeting has not yet been set.

The next regular meeting of the Brandenburg City Council will be on Monday, June 8 at 7 pm at Brandenburg City Hall.
