Alabama and spotted bass hybrids have never before been found in Kentucky waters. The extent of their presence is not yet known, but biologists are conducting genetic testing of the lake\u2019s bass population. This will help management to decide what steps to take to keep the 356 acre lake and surrounding waters healthy.<\/p>\n
The Alabama bass have been known to cause devastation in fisheries, and populations of smallmouth, largemouth, and spotted bass populations have been significantly changed by this species in areas it is foreign to.<\/p>\n
Kentucky Fish and Wildlife say their main concern is the species interbreeding with smallmouth and spotted bass, leading to the eventual elimination of these native Kentucky fish.<\/p>\n
Kentucky Fish and Wildlife remind anglers and boaters not to move fish or plants between bodies of water, as this increases the risk of introducing invasive species to these ecosystems.
