The Nelson County Sheriff\u2019s Office says deputies were called to a home on Loretto Road on Monday, June 1, for a report of a man experiencing a severe mental crisis. Deputies identified the man as 23 year-old James Pinkston, who the agency says was highly manic and later determined to be under the influence of narcotics.<\/p>\n
Deputies say they tried to de-escalate the situation, but Pinkston was non-compliant. The sheriff\u2019s office says the situation escalated when Pinkston attempted to attack a deputy and tried to enter an agency vehicle. After a physical struggle, deputies were able to subdue and take him into custody.<\/p>\n
Because of his altered mental state, Nelson County EMS responded to evaluate Pinkston. While being treated in an ambulance, deputies say Pinkston kicked a paramedic in the chest.<\/p>\n
Pinkston was lodged in the Nelson County Correctional Center and charged with:<\/p>\n
