The new law requires certain adults enrolled in Medicaid to meet an 80 hours per month work requirement to be eligible for benefits. This requirement is being referred to as Medicaid community engagement.<\/p>\n
The requirement applies to any adults between the ages of 19 to 64 years old who are not pregnant, in postpartum, disabled or medically frail or their caretakers, and parents and caretakers of children under 14. Those enrolled in Medicare are exempt, as well as American Indians and Alaska Natives according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.<\/p>\n
Those who are required to complete the \u2018community engagement\u2019 are allowed to do so through employment, participation in work programs or community service, or be enrolled in an educational program at least half time. The requirement can be met by combining permitted activities.
