The court heard a presentation from Jay Schmidt, Fort Knox Operational Maintenance Supervisor presenting the county with a opportunity to develop a interlocal support agreement program between the military base and county government that would provide local workers for jobs at Fort Knox. The county would bid on the job need and would be a contractor to the military base and use local vendors as a sub contractor to perform the work. The contract would be secured through a competitive bid process between neighboring counties and eligible contractors. If successful, the county would be responsible for additional administrative costs to enter the biding process, for the duration of the 10 year contract that could net a percentage of the $4 to $6 million a year. County leader took no action on the proposal after some discussion.

Later in the meeting, magistrates heard a proposal from Charlie Waugh to partner with county for the installation of 2 electric vehicle recharging station for class 2 and 3 vehicles. The recharging station would be located on county owned property at Meade-Olin Park and in Otter Creek Park. Partnership would allow Waugh to apply for a MEVPAC grant and the county would have the electric vehicle infrastructure that would assist the county with applying for other federal and tourism grants. The term of the agreement would be five years on a 80-20 funding that would be provided by the federal and state funds with agreement to turn into a profit share between Waugh and the county. No action was taken on the proposal.

In other business, fiscal court approved the LARP funding and related agreements for Molly Brown and Woodland Roads. They also accepted Ditto Lane into the county road system. Magistrates approved a estimate of $7,521 for repairs to Barger Lane to bring it to county road standards. They also approved Rowan Court as a private road name for the county’s E911 addressing. The road is located in the Valentine Subdivision.

County leaders approved a resolution establishing a Turf Field Utilization fee of $25 per practice travel baseball and softball practice at Meade-Olin Park. The fee is for regular use and maintenance of the turf field from the extra use.

Fiscal Court approved eight second readings of rezoning requests presented from the Planning and Zoning Commission. Magistrates discussed and voted to extended the terms of Planning and Zoning Commission members Guy Garcia and Susan Doleman for 60 days in order for Fiscal Court and Planning and Zoning to have a work session to establish clearer communication and review expectations and the process of appointments to the commission and Board of Adjustments. Planning and Zoning Administrator Jennifer Smart said that currently there are 5 empty seats to fill between the boards. No date was set for the work session, but is planned to be held a few weeks after the fair.

The next regular meeting of Meade County Fiscal Court will be held on Tuesday, August 11 at 7 pm located at the Meade County Courthouse.
