The court voted to keep tax rates at the current value of 21.10 cents per $100 of assessed value for real property; 29.10 cents per $100 of assessed value for personal property; and 19.00 cents for merchant inventory tax. The court set the motor vehicle and watercraft at the same rate for 2027 at 13.40 cents per $100 of assessed value.<\/p>\n
Fiscal Court heard a request from the Meade County Sheriff’s Office to use county opioid funds to provide funding for the D.A.R.E. program in they county schools. School Resource Officer Scotty Singleton and Sheriff Phillip Wimpee asked county leaders to invest into the county’s children to help combat the drug epidemic in the county. After discussion of the request, the court voted to use up to a $50,000 over a 5 year period with the Sheriff’s Office to provide reporting how the funds were spent. The D.A.R.E program includes between 300 and 400 students over the 10 weeks program.<\/p>\n
County Road Supervisor Jeff Padgett informed Fiscal Court of issues with the burn pad. Padgett said numerous complaints have bene made with burning of tree and limbs at the site which causes unwanted smoke to nearby residents and businesses Judge Executive Troy Kok said that crews have attempted to burn on set days and have tried to burn when the weather conditions were at exact wind conditions and nothing seems to resolve the issue. The county does not own any other land suitable to relocate the burn pad. After discussion, the court voted to close the burn pad on August 30.<\/p>\n
in other business, Fiscal Court approved the reappointment of Bob Stith to the Payneville Fire Department Board of Trustees. They also heard and approved the first reading of an ordinance amendment setting parking fees at Otter Creek Park. They also approved a parking citation card that will be used in the park. Magistrates approved an increase to Solid Waste and Recycling roll off fees. They also tabled action to auction off 2 Mack roll off trucks and the financing of new trucks. <\/p>\n
Magistrates began a discussion on magistrate pay but decided to table the item until next month in order to review state regulations and designations. Any pay increase would have to made before the November general election. The court met in a closed session for about 45 minutes for the purpose to discuss pending litigation which resulted in no action taken. <\/p>\n
At the beginning of the meeting, Emergency Management Director David Greer and Judge Executive Troy Kok recognized EMA Deputy Director Angel Gates for her hard work and dedication in serving Meade County the past 15 years.<\/p>\n
