The investigation began around 10:34 p.m. on August 22, when Central City Police were called to the McDonald\u2019s on South 2nd Street. Officers found 43-year-old John Shanks of Central City suffering from stab wounds to his head and face. Shanks was rushed by EMS to Owensboro Health Muhlenberg Community Hospital.<\/p>\n
Shortly before that call, at approximately 10:30 p.m., Greenville Police had stopped a red Buick for a traffic violation near Doss Drive and West Everly Brothers Boulevard. Inside, officers discovered 48 year-old Scotty Stewart, of Central City, suffering from stab wounds. Despite lifesaving efforts by police and EMS, Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
Responding officers detained 39 year-old Wayne Browning, of Drakesboro, at the nearby Central Inn after he matched a suspect description. Investigators later obtained a search warrant for Browning\u2019s motel room, where they recovered additional evidence.<\/p>\n
Browning was then arrested and booked into the Muhlenberg County Detention Center on charges of murder and first-degree assault.<\/p>\n
Agencies involved with the investigation are Central City Police Department, Central City Fire Department, Greenville Police Department, Muhlenberg County Sheriff\u2019s Office, Kentucky State Police, Muhlenberg County EMS and Muhlenberg County Coroner\u2019s Office.
