Viral TikTok and Snapchat posts showing what appears to be an AI-generated \u201cCat in the Hat\u201d have circulated widely, causing worry among students, parents and administrators. The posts contain captions that list individuals\u2019 first names alongside specific places in Kentucky, accompanied by threatening messages such as \u201cyou\u2019re next\u201d and \u201cdon\u2019t leave your window open.\u201d<\/p>\n
The trend has already led to law enforcement action. In Allen County, a juvenile is now facing charges in connection to the posts.<\/p>\n
While the Louisville Metro Police Department stated there is currently no credible threat, the city\u2019s Homeland Security Unit is actively reviewing information related to the incidents and coordinating with school administrators.<\/p>\n
The disruption was felt heavily at Assumption High School in Louisville, which pivoted to online classes and canceled all after-school activities Monday in response to the posts. In a letter sent to parents, Assumption officials explained that \u201csome accounts have used threatening language or identified real schools and students, so every report must be taken seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n
Other districts are also on high alert. In Oldham County, officials reported that unsettling messages were sent to students through Snapchat. The district sent a letter to parents clarifying that while there is no verifiable danger, \u201cwe are not treating this lightly.\u201d<\/p>\n
In Bullitt County, a student flagged one of the posts to school administration.<\/p>\n
While there has been no credible threat identified in Bullitt County, school officials say the ominous posts are still having a negative impact on the school day.
