Brad Brinkley, 40, of Hanover, Indiana, was charged with reckless homicide, leaving the scene of an accident involving death or serious injury without rendering aid, tampering with physical evidence and failure to report a traffic accident.<\/p>\n
According to an arrest citation, a Louisville Metro Police officer was flagged down by employees of Bethany Cemetery, who reported a man had been found dead in the back of the property.<\/p>\n
Officers found the man dead inside a cardboard box with tire marks on it, indicating that a vehicle had run over the box.<\/p>\n
Thomas Litsey, 60, the groundskeeper at the cemetery, allegedly told police he was the one who found the body but later recanted and said Brinkley was the one who told him about it.<\/p>\n
Litsey was arrested and charged with complicity to tampering with physical evidence. Police believe Litsey was attempting to hide Brinkley\u2019s involvement.<\/p>\n
Brinkley allegedly told police he had run over the cardboard box and felt a bump but did not check what he had hit. He then drove over the area a second time and saw a hand sticking out of the box, court documents state.<\/p>\n
Brinkley could not tell police why he left the scene and did not contact authorities after seeing the hand.<\/p>\n
Another witness said that, after hitting the box, Brinkley acted unusually and remained inside the vehicle with his head down.<\/p>\n
Litsey said Brinkley usually remained at the cemetery, helping remove tarps following funerals, but immediately left the scene without talking to anyone after the incident.<\/p>\n
In court Friday, a judge set Brinkley\u2019s bond at $250,000 and Litsey\u2019s bond at $50,000. They\u2019re both due back in court later this month.<\/p>\n
The victim\u2019s brother, Charles Barbe, later identified him as 45 year-old Carl \u201cMikey\u201d Michael Kinley.
