A statement from the Kentucky Office of Highway Safety says officers are focusing on pickup trucks, which have the lowest seatbelt usage rate. Officers from several agencies participated in a kick-off event Monday in Louisville.<\/p>\n
Highway Safety Director Bill Bell says the campaign is an effort to encourage motorists to buckle up as the Memorial Day holiday and summer vacation season quickly approach.<\/p>\n
The statement says more than half of the motor vehicle fatalities in 2015 involved those who were unrestrained.<\/p>\n
Louisville Metro Police Sgt. Bill Patterson said using a seatbelt is an easy and effective way to increase safety.<\/p>\n
Kentucky law says everyone in a moving vehicle is required to be belted.
