Christopher Aaron Cobert, 28, was arrested by Jeffersontown police a short time after the shooting. He is charged with of assault 1st degree – domestic violence, kidnapping, murder, robbery, tampering with physical evidence and wanton endangerment. <\/p>\n
Information contained in the arrest report was read in court during Cobert’s arraignment on Tuesday. The report says Cobert had gone to the home of his girlfriend in the 9000 block of Green Garden Court around 7 p.m. with a loaded gun and was going to force her to go with him against her will. Before leaving with the woman, Cobert held the gun to her head, entered her father’s bedroom and forced him to lie on his stomach ordering the man’s daughter to hog tie him.<\/p>\n
Cobert left room briefly, but when he returned 63 year-old Larry P. Wittmer had freed himself. The report says Cobert and Wittmer exchanged gunshots inside and outside the home before Cobert fled on foot. Police say dozens of children were playing outside as the gunfire was taking place.<\/p>\n
The report says Cobert discarded several boxes of ammo while fleeing following the shooting. It also states Cobert admitted to what happened after being arrested.<\/p>\n
Wittmer was wounded during the gunfire exchange. He was taken to University of Louisville Hospital where he died a short time later.<\/p>\n
Judge David Holton entered a not guilty plea for Cobert, set his bond at $500,000 cash and scheduled his next court date for June 3.
