Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell told media on Friday morning the decision was made to ensure the safety of officers. He said it would also give officers a chance to talk with a colleague about what happened and decompress.<\/p>\n
Five Dallas police officers were fatally shot and seven others wounded during a protest over the deaths of black men killed by police this week in Louisiana and Minnesota. It was the deadliest day for U.S. law enforcement since the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.<\/p>\n
Dallas Police Chief David Brown blamed “snipers,” but it was unclear how many shooters were involved in Thursday’s attack.
