The Kentucky Division of Water and the Kentucky Department for Public Health are re-issuing a harmful algal bloom recreational advisory for the Ohio River and tributaries, extending the advisory downstream from the West Virginia state line to the Cannelton Locks and Dam located at Cannelton, in Hancock County, Kentucky.<\/p>\n
The Kentucky Division of Water and Ohio River Valley Sanitation Commission personnel observed favorable water conditions for harmful algal bloom development and made visual confirmation of harmful algal blooms in the McAlpine pool at Louisville, Carrollton and Madison, Indiana. In addition, the Kentucky Division of Water staff observed harmful algal blooms in the Cannelton pool at West Point. Preliminary analysis indicates that microcystin toxins are occurring in these pools above advisory thresholds, which warrants the advisory to be extended downstream.<\/p>\n

On September 15, the Kentucky Division of Water personnel observed favorable water conditions for harmful algal bloom development and observed a significant amount of harmful algal bloom in Lake Reba.
