Ramsey’s resignation officially takes effect immediately, and applies to his role as president of the university and all other roles within the university.<\/p>\n
The board had been scheduled to discuss Ramsey’s offer of resignation on Tuesday, but the meeting was delayed until Wednesday because Ramsey and some board members could not attend.<\/p>\n
During his tenure, Ramsey has helped boost the school’s profile, increasing graduation rates and academic standards for incoming freshmen, while leading highly-successful fundraising efforts.<\/p>\n
Recently, however, the school has been rocked by scandals, including allegations that a former staffer for the basketball team lined up prostitutes for players and recruits, leading the school to impose sanctions on itself.<\/p>\n
Governor Bevin, a Republican, described the former board of trustees as dysfunctional when justifying his decision to abolish it and appoint new members. Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear, a Democrat, has challenged the legality of that move, potentially calling into the question the legitimacy of any actions taken by the new board.<\/p>\n
Ramsey will be paid $690,000 as part of the settlement.
