\nA fire at an Elizabethtown plant in the industrial park on Ring Road caused a brief disruption in production Wednesday evening.<\/p>\n

According to Elizabethtown Deputy Chief Everett Roberts, the fire began in the friction department in the hot press area of Akebono Brake Corporation at 6:31 p.m. and employees who noticed the fire activated the alarm.<\/p>\n

When firefighters arrived, employees had been evacuated and smoke was reported coming from the north end of the building.<\/p>\n

Everett said the sprinkler system was activated and firefighters accessed the building to extinguish flames and its roof to verify it had not spread through the ventilation system using a thermal imaging system. According to Everett, 16 firefighters and three trucks responded to the scene.<\/p>\n

No injuries were reported and the fire was under control and extinguished by 7 p.m.<\/p>\n

Workers were allowed back into the plant, which produces advanced brake and friction material development and production, around 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

Hardin County EMS and the Ameri\u00accan Red Cross also assisted at the scene.
