Cowins expressed his appreciation to everyone who has donated to the festival.<\/p>\n<p>Police Chief Dale Harp advised the council the search for a new police officer has been narrowed to 6 candidates.<\/p>\n<p>Fire Chief Danny Dresel advised the council the new tools for the department are in and the new turn-out gear has been ordered. He also said about 150 students attended the fire school this past weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Public Works Supervisor Anthony Lee told the council the work at the Harris Street sewer station has been completed with the total expenses topping out around $28,500. He also advised the city will start installing new fire hydrants next week and will soon be testing sewer lines throughout the city.<\/p>\n<p>The council discussed paying for a mid tier health insurance supplement for Code Enforcement Officer Jim Heavrin at $340.14 monthly. Some of the council members expressed concern about the city furnishing the insurance as a benefit since Heavrin is not on the city\u2019s payroll. The issue was tabled until a special call meeting Monday, September 19, at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Ethics Board Chairman Annabelle Johnson advised the council the board was short one member and suggested Ralph Carlberg be appointed to the position. Councilman Russell Cowins expressed a domestic conflict of interest concern. The issue was also tabled until the special meeting next week.<\/p>\n<p>The gym at city hall will be closed to events during the week prior to the Down Home Days festival to allow vendors time to get set up.<\/p>\n<p>The learning lab will be held at city hall on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. starting September 13.
