\nRupp Arena and UK Athletics will begin requiring all fans to walk through metal detectors upon entry to the venue and limit the size of bags brought inside the building during Kentucky men’s and women’s basketball games.<\/p>\n

The university said the changes will “provide a safer environment for the public and serve as an enhancement to security.” They go into effect Friday, October 14, with Big Blue Madness.<\/p>\n

The bag policy will require bags not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12″. Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at a gate designated for this purpose.<\/p>\n

Both changes will apply at all general public, student and premium entrances. <\/p>\n

Doors will continue to open at Rupp Arena 90 minutes prior to tip-off. Under the new event-day policies, fans are highly encouraged to arrive early to games. UK Athletics and Rupp Arena are also encouraging patrons to travel light for quicker entry. Express lanes for guests with no bags will be provided to assist in expediting the security process.
