A judge has set a 2016 trial date for a western Kentucky man charged with plotting the killing of his family and an acquaintance.
Prosecutors say Ryan Champion plotted the deaths of his parents and sister with another man, but then Champion shot that man to death after he carried out the plot. All four died of gunshot wounds at the Champion family home in Cadiz.
A judge set a trial date for August 15 in Trigg County Circuit Court.
Champion is charged with three counts of complicity to murder on allegations he worked with 22-year-old Vito Riservato to kill Lindsey and Joy Champion and their daughter, Emily Champion, on October 26. Prosecutors say Ryan Champion killed Riservato after he carried out the plot.
