A kindergartner student was killed after exiting a Butler County School bus Monday afternoon.
According to Kentucky State Police, 5 year-old Jaden Hawkins had just gotten off the bus at his grandmother’s house, near the intersection of highway 70 and Provo Road, and was struck by the bus as it was pulling away.
Police haven’t released any more details about what caused the accident or the sequence of events at this point. Police said the driver of the bus was 54 year-old Janine Dockery of Morgantown.
According to a statement from the Butler County School District, Dockery has been a full time employee for nearly 18 years and has an exemplary driving record with the district.
All of the students on the bus were taken up the road to a nearby church to be picked up by their parents. The school bus has been confiscated for investigation.
Counselors will be available to meet with students as needed.
The accident remains under investigation by the Kentucky State Police and the Butler County Sheriff’s Department.
