A single vehicle accident early Tuesday morning resulted in one person taken to the hospital and another being taken to jail.
According to the Meade County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a single vehicle accident around 1 AM Tuesday (9/28) along Brandenburg Road near Garrett. A red 2004 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 21 year-old Clay Tucker of Battletown left the roadway and struck a gas service line and wooden utility pole. Upon impact the passenger in the vehicle, 25 year-old Jeffery Mitchell of Brandenburg was ejected from the truck and was laying in the ditch line.
Mitchell was taken to University of Louisville Hospital by Meade County EMS for his injuries. Tucker had left the accident scene in the truck before emergency crews arrived on the scene. Both Tucker and the truck were located a couple of hours later at a residence in the 1200 block of Midway Road.
According to witnesses in the area of the accident scene, the truck had been observed being operated recklessly just before the accident. Tucker was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of an accident and failure to render aid; criminal mischief first degree; and wanton endangerment first degree. Tucker was lodged in the Meade County Detention Center.
The Ekron and Flaherty Fire Departments along with Muldraugh Police assisted the Meade County Sheriff’s Department at the scene which resulted in the road being closed about an hour.
