Members of Meade County Fiscal Court moved through a short agenda during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday (10/13) night.
The court approved a request by County Clerk Judy Jordan to pre-approve an estimated total of $14,500 election fees for election clerks and precinct workers for the general election. The court also approved the preapproval for usage of the e-slate and e-scan voting machines in each precinct.
Judge Executive Gerry Lynn read and signed a resolution approved by the court in support of World Pancreatic Cancer Day as local supporters of the effort looked on. Magistrates approved the reappointment on Charlotte Lawson to the county Health Board. They accepted the Conservation District tax rate of .008 cents which remains the same for several consecutive years.
County Planning and Zoning Administrator Charlie Allgeier reported to the county leaders that a working draft of a nuisance ordinance and an abandoned property ordinance is ready for the Fiscal Court’s review. After a brief overview of each ordinance, it was determined that magistrates might need a session to work together to adjust the proposed drafts to meet the needs of the county. The Court set a special called work session for Thursday, October 27 at 7 pm to review both ordinances.
Magistrates approved an agreement with the state for funding for a inmate work detail. Under the agreement the state would reimburse the county for a jail deputy’s salary and supplies. Jailer J.J. Scarborough said that he would begin the program with one team but the agreement would allow two work details. He also told the court that as of Tuesday the county Detention Center had 202 inmates with 150 being state inmates.
