
The Muldraugh City Council discussed several topics of business during their regular monthly meeting Monday night (11/9).
The Council first heard from resident Archie Ellinger regard the potential of illegal dumping on a lot on the south side of the city. After several minutes of comments from Ellinger, he was reminded by Mayor Joseph Noon and Councilman Russell Cowins that the city has letters from the EPA that has determined that there noting hazardous dumped into the site. The city is allowing a firm to dump clean fill dirt into the site to help fill and develop the lot.
In the business session, the council approved a request by Police Chief Charlie Ashbaugh to deem the inventory items of a 1979 front-end loader, a forklift, three file fire safes, 9 storage cabinets, 2001 Ford Explorer and a 1986 Chevrolet Truck as surplus property. Cheif Ashbaugh said that the proceeds from the sale of a camper and other property had provided the payoff of the Department’s Chevy Caprice. A motion made by Councilman Cowins to transfer the Chevy truck to the Meade County Fire Protection District.
Fire Chief Danny Dresel reported that the Muldraugh Fire Department gae out around 200 hot dogs during the recent Halloween event at the firehouse. He said that the department will be working their Insurance Services Office audit at the turn of the calendar year. Currently the goal is to reduce the current rating from a 6 to 5 in the audit update. The rating helps insurance rates in the town and surrounding area.
Public Works Director Anthony Lee reported that five fire hydrants will have to have repair work or be replaced. According to Anthony’s county, one hydrant can be worked on since it has a shut off valve, while the other four 1957 model hydrants will have to be replaced systematically because they don’t have shut-offs.
Lee reported that the city is down with asphalt work for the season after making rounds to the major problems areas. He also reported that one pump was back online after a major failure at the sunset sewer lift station. A second pump is expected to be back online within the week.
Council members approved the second readings of ordinances related to the adoption of the Kentucky Model Procurement Code and the amendment of city’s impound lot fees and procedures. They also approved a proclamation naming Friday, November 13 as “World Pancreatic Cancer Day” to bring support and attention to the disease.
