The Brandenburg City Council worked through further discussion of the proposed NQ2 ordinance during their regular monthly meeting Monday night.
The council already had approved the first reading of the proposed ordinance which would allow the restaurant and establishments, who derive seventy percent of their business from food sales to serve alcohol, liquor and malt beverages. The ordinance is designed to encompass all facets of the city’s ABC control policy.
The council discussed a couple of clarifications in the ordinance and made one change to the serving time allowed. The first draft stated for alcohol sales to be not conducted between the hours of 1 to 6 am Monday through Saturday. Mayor Ronnie Joyner asked that the time to be from Midnight until 6 am Monday through Saturday, with no sales on Sunday. The council agreed to the change. After several minutes of discussion with concerned businesswoman Bonnie Oblander, the council approved the second summary reading of the NQ2 ordinance.
In other business, the council approved a resolution to appoint Amy Haynes as the Designation of Applicant Agent for the city. Haynes will take the position of City Clerk at the end of February after the retirement of Current City Clerk Molly Janes.
Police Chief Scotty Singleton reported to the council that the Citizens on Patrol program now has ten members that are working to finish preliminary training. He said the outlook on the program is brighter with the addition of the new recruits. He reported that the COP volunteers had worked 34 patrols during the month of December.
