
The Brandenburg City Council met during their regular meeting Monday (2/8).
The Council heard from Annie Hamilton during the public session who announced planning of a paranormal conference later this year in Brandenburg. The conference is expected to be a two day event that is expected to include a zombie walk.
The council approved an audit report of city finances for the 2014-15 fiscal year conducted by Richardson, Pennington and Skinner. John Gricious said the firm gave a clean opinion of the city finances and he thanked City Clerk Molly Janes for her years of work and helpfulness during the audits that he has worked with her and the city staff.
The council approved the recommendation made by Mayor Ronnie Joyner to appoint Amy Haynes as the City Clerk to fill the position after Molly Janes retires at the end of the month. Haynes will official take the position on March 1. Mayor Joyner announced that a open house will be held on February 26 at city hall from 2-6 for the community to wish Janes well wishes for her retirement.
During departmental reports, Brandenburg Police Sergeant Ray Whited introduced four of six new recruits to the Citizens on Patrol program. A few of the recruits are teenagers who are seniors at Meade County High School. Sergeant Whited commended them for volunteering to the program when most teens would not want to do a community based task. The program now has eleven members and are still looking to add more to the roster. Interested people who would want to volunteer or help the Citizens On Patrol may contact Brandenburg City Hall.
At the end of the meeting, the council heard and approved a resolution honoring the memory of Ronald Lee Reinscheld, who passed away on January 31. Reinscheld had served on teh City’s Planning and Zoning board and been a resident of the city for many years before moving outside of the city due to medical issues about six months ago.
The next regular scheduled meeting of the Brandenburg City Council will be held on March 14 at 7 pm.
