The Western Kentucky Hilltoppers officially announced Monday a new head men’s basketball coach.
Rick Stansbury was named Western Kentucky University’s new coach less than two weeks after former coach Ray Harper resigned. The Battletown native, was the head coach at Mississippi State from 1999-2012, compiling a 293-166 record. His teams won the SEC tournament in 2002 and 2009.
He spent the last two seasons as an assistant at Texas A&M. The Aggies made it to the Sweet 16, and shared the SEC regular season title with Kentucky. He was the associate head coach under Billy Kennedy for the 2015-16 season.
