
Meade County Fiscal Court took their regular meeting on the road Tuesday night as they visited Payneville.
The road meetings allow the residents to interact with county leaders in a convenient location for those who can not attend regular meetings at the courthouse. Magistrates heard from a representative of the Kentucky Motorcycle Association who asked the court to replace a “Share the Road” traffic sign along with installing a similar sign along Kentucky 1638.
In other business, the court approved County Clerk Judy Jordan’s request for approval of the precinct worker and clerk pay for the upcoming primary election on May 17. The primary election is estimated to cost the county $12,500. The court also approved the use of two voting machines as normal. The Court approved the lowest of four roofing bid for the courthouse. The work will replace the final 7800 square foot section of roof over the County Clerk, PVA and Circuit Clerk’s offices. Ray Nolin Roofing of Louisville had the lowest bid of $54,257 for the polyurethane roofing system.
Magistrates approved moving forward with filling vacancies for part time EMTs and paramedics. They also approved the hiring of Jacob Goodman as the assistant County Park’s Director, along with summer part time hires of Ralph Carwile, Max Cundiff, and Logan Wemes and Tim Thomas, as a truck operator for the County Road Department. The court approved a amendment to wording the personnel policy to allow a potential candidate a opportunity for a county job whether they have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. The idea is to give workers a second chance and work with them to earn their GED within six months of being employed by the county. Judge Executive Gerry Lynn said that if a person had the ability and work history but did not have a high school diploma or GED, it was not right to pass over them without providing them a second chance at a position.
The court approved renewing the purchase contract with Cargill for the road salt at the county road system at the same rate as last year’s purchase. They also approved the purchase of a Ford F250 crew cab pickup for the Park Department to replace at estimated cost of $29,000. County leaders heard the first reading of budget amendment by Jailer J.J. Scarborough, who said that he will an estimated overage of $515,000 which he wants to add to the operational lines of his budget. The second reading is set for the court’s May regular meeting. Scarborough also asked for the court’s approval of the policy and procedure manual for the jail which had some minor wording changes and he presented his proposed 2016-17 budget, which were approved by the court.
Magistrates set a date for Budget Workshop work session on Wednesday, April 27 at 7 pm to discuss budget items in the proposed county budget. The first reading of the proposed county budget is schedule during the next regular meeting of Meade County Fiscal Court on Tuesday, May 10.
