
The Brandenburg City Council met during their regular monthly meeting Monday evening (5/9).
The council awarded the first “Yard of The Month” honor to J.C. Shacklette for his manicured lawn. City leaders will be watching for the next winners of the honor.
In other business, the council unanimously approved the rezoning request of a lot owned by Alec Stone along Burnett Lane. Stone is planning to replace the current structure with a new duplex. During the discussion of bills, City Clerk Amy Haynes explained a increase in utility costs to the council. She said that the previous month’s payment to LG&E was lost in the mail and this month’s payment made up the difference owed.
Police Chief Scotty Singleton read two different letters commending Sergeant Ray Whited and Patrolman Cole Bevill their responses on two separate occasions where each officer thoroughly searched the property and made sure that the area was safe for the residents. Council members commended the officers and police department for their response times and a job well done.
Public Works Director T.J. Hughes reported to the council that fire hydrant flushing is about done. He said that a couple of the hydrants need to be repaired. City crews are waiting for lower river levels to install the new docks at the boat ramp. The new dock were constructed by students at the Area Vocational School.
Hughes also reported that the new outdoor warning siren is back in operation at Broadway and Old Ekron Road. He said that the siren next to old courthouse site on Main Street was hit by lightning. The city is waiting for replacement parts at a cost of around $9,000.
The council heard a second reading of a ordinance to increase the pay of city council members to $200 beginning at the beginning at the next term in January.
