Tuesday is Primary Election Day in Kentucky. Polls will be open from 6 am until 6 pm at normal precinct locations.
In Meade County, Democrats will select between Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders as the Presidential candidate along with US Senator, and State Senator.
Republicans will still need to go to the polls to decide the GOP US Senate race between Rand Paul, Stephen Howard Slaugther and James Gould.
On the bigger political stage, Donald Trump and Ted Cruz are the biggest draws in Kentucky’s 1st Congressional District, and neither will be on the ballot on Tuesday.
That could be a problem for the four people who hope to be the Republican nominee for Congress, leaving them without a guaranteed turnout machine heading into their contentious primary.
Kentucky Republicans voted for their presidential nominee in a caucus two months ago. Tuesday, they will vote in primary elections for local, state and federal offices. The biggest race is the seat being vacated by retiring U.S. Representative Ed Whitfield. The candidates are Hickman County Attorney Jason Batts, military veteran Miles A. Caughey Jr., former state Agriculture Commissioner James Comer and former Whitfield aide Michael Pape.
The winner will face Democrat Samuel Gaskins in the general election.
WVIH.com will have updated election returns as they are counted at the Meade County Clerk’s Office just after 6 pm.
