Voters went to the polls and made their voices heard during the Primary Election Tuesday (5/17).
In Meade County the results showed that 4,105 of 20,695 registered voters made cast ballots in their respective primary. Meade County Clerk Judy Jordan said that the voter turn was 19.83 percent. In The GOP primary, Republican Rand Paul (759 votes, 83.13%) defeated challengers Stephen Slaughter (91 votes, 9.97%) and James Gould (63 votes, 6.90%) for United State Senator.
In the Democratic primary, for Bernie Sanders (1,541 votes, 49.22%) topped Hillary Clinton (1,312 votes, 41.90%) in the race for the President Of The United States. Other candidates, Martin O’Malley (59 votes, 1.88%) and Roque Rocky De Lu Fuente (21 votes, 0.67%) were defeated by a uncommitted votes of 198 votes or 6.31%.
In the United State Senator race, Jim Gray (1,248 votes, 43.97%) defeated challengers Ron Leach (1,022 votes, 36.01%), Selius Wilder (153 votes, 5.39%), Jeff Kender (121 votes, 4.26%) Tom Reckenwald (99 votes, 3.49%), and Rory Houlihan (93 votes, 3.28%).
For State Fifth District Senator, Leslie Stith (2,464 votes, 80.75%) downed challenger Ricky Alvey (587 votes, 19.24%).
Over state totals showed Clinton (46.76%) narrowly winning over Sanders (46.33%) in the Presidential race.
