An unscheduled discussion during the regular meeting Meade County Fiscal Court Tuesday (6/14) night led to the elimination of two controversial ordinances that has been tabled for months.
Close to the end of the meeting, Third District Magistrate Billy Sipes made a motion to untable the nuisance and abandoned property ordinances for discussion. Once untabled, Sipes made another motion for the court to “eliminate” or “kill” the respective ordinances in order to make the county leaders take a stand on the issue. After several minutes of discussion, the court took a vote approving the motion. The only course of action for a citizen to take is to pursue a civil court case.
In other business, the court approved the appointments of Ron Barger to the Library Board; Charlie Wilkins, Sr. to the Flaherty Fire Department District; Mickey Chism to the Water District Board; Ron Richardson to the Ekron Fire District; and Don Bewley to the River Port Authority.

The court approved the hiring of additional employees for EMS. Interviews are still scheduled and ongoing but the approval is to allow the hiring of the candidates for the vacancies once the interviews are complete.
