
The Muldraugh City Council spent majority of a nearly three hour special called meeting Monday (6/20) night discussing the proposed fiscal year budget.
The council delayed discussion of the budget from their regular monthly meeting on June 13 due to a lack of time to review the proposed document. During the special called meeting, Lisa Shelton of Real Estate 3000 discussed with the council the council about the possible list to lease of sale of property at 702 Dixie Highway.
After a short discussion, Corey Dresel made a motion to enter into an agreement to list the property for six months with Real Estate 300 for a monthly lease the property at $1,000 or a to sale the property at a asking price of the appraised value of $100,000.
In other business, the council approved the first reading of an ordinance amending the current fiscal year budget. The council spend a good portion of the meeting discussing possible cuts in the budget. Council member Russell Cowins suggested to reduce overtime expenses in each department. Upon the discussion, no major headway was gained since the overtime reductions were already calculated into the budget.
After the first attempt to have the first reading of the budget, As the conversation went along Councilman Corey Dresel made a motion to eliminate any merit raises to city employees. Mayor Joseph Noon had proposed in a budget letter to the council that a merit increase up to fifty cents per hours was figured into the proposed budget. A motion made Councilman Corey Dresel seconded by Councilman Russell Cowins was approved to eliminate any pay increases for city employees. The money figured for the merit increase was redirect to make additional payments on the City Public Works trucks and to pay off the HVAC loan for the city hall building.
The council finally approved the first reading of the proposed budget for the 2016-17 fiscal year. The council approved a request from City Clerk Caroline Cline to add the Storm Water Fees to the water bills beginning in July.
The council will meet next during a special called meeting on Monday, June 27.
