
Members of Meade County Fiscal Court heard from several members of the community during the public comment period during their regular monthly meeting Tuesday (7/12) night.
One resident asked county leaders to make repairs to Shawn Lane located off of US 60. The resident cited standing water and narrow lanes for emergency equipment to respond to the fifteen residents who live on the quarter mile road.
The remaining five individuals who spoke during the public session, provided comments on the topic of the lack of a nuisance ordinance in the county and called upon the Fiscal Court to work on a way to use existing regulations to help combat the ongoing issues for residents who have legitimate complaints with neighbors.
After 40 minutes of discussion, the closed the topic to work on there business and returned to the topic at the end of the meeting as Third District Magistrate Billy Sipes made a motion for Fiscal Court to conduct a workshop to seek public comments and brainstorm on ways to re-evaluate the need for a future ordinance. The court approved the motion and scheduled the workshop for Tuesday, August 2 at 6 pm.
In other business, the court approved the purchase of a new 2015 Ford truck for the County Animal Control office from Ray’s Ford which provided the lowest bid. Court members also approved a purchase of a 2017 Ford crew cab truck for the County Road Department from Ray’s Ford at a bid price of $28,946.
The court heard and approved the second reading of the Solid Waste ordinance amendment. They also approved the private road name of Russell Landing Road and Payne Landing Road for E911 addressing purpose. Neither road will be accepted into the county road system. The court gave permission to fill a open full-time EMS Paramedic position. Magistrates approved a list of annual community contributions and fire department funding.
County leaders also approved the Sheriff 2015 tax settlement along with the year-end financials for the Detention Center and the County Treasurer.
