The Meade County Board of Education set their tax rates for the coming year during a special called meeting Thursday(9/8) evening.
Board members conducted a public hear prior to the special called meeting to allow public comment on the proposed tax rates which would remain the same. After receiving no comments, the Board entered into their special meeting to consider their regular monthly business. Board members approved the current tax rate of 50.9 cents per $100 of valuation of real and personal property which is expected to produce $7,152,060.62 for the general fund of the school district. That is a increase of $505,106.39.
In other business, the board reviewed a ongoing draft of goals and district priorities for the current school year. Superintendent Dr. John Millay said among the goals to increase student attendance at the high school to 94 percent, which slightly higher than the estimated 93 percent from last year. The board approved a job description for a teacher and behavior interventionist. The board approved the recommendation to deem the tractor for the Meade County High School Band as surplus. Dr. Millay said that the old tractor was a mid 1980’s model and when comparing the costs it was cheaper to lease a tractor than to continue the upkeep of the older model. The board moved to approve the lease of a tractor to pull the band trailer.
Board members approved an adjustment of terms for school bus driver salary schedule which clarifies and creates a range for payment per routes instead of set amounts based upon time.
Dr. Millay announced the ground breaking on the new Area Technology Center renovation project will be held on Friday (9/9) at 12:45 pm at the Area Technology Center. The Board of Education will return to their normal meeting schedule on Tuesday, October 11 at 7:30 pm.
